Teachers supporting parents

Each complete class set comprises of over 100 different phoneme flash cards in line with all DFE approved schemes.

The pack includes ‘sound’ cards and ‘ways to spell’ cards.

The teacher is able to select and create their class packs and is in control of when and which cards to distribute. For students requiring stretch work additional cards are available in the set.

Each week the students will collect, personalise and add their new cards to their existing packs. Their packs go home so that they can further practice their growing phonic knowledge. This keeps home and school aligned.

The ‘sound’ cards all have a blue border.

Ask the student to look at the card front (blue border) and ask do they know the sound this phoneme makes? If the student needs a clue flip over the card for a picture clue.

Some phonemes makes more than one sound.  As the student becomes more proficient they will recognise this and when trying to decode a word will try the different options out.

• Recognise phonemes can make different sounds – the superscript gives a clue to the number of different sound options.

• Identify vowels with the purple flash at the top of the card.

• reverse •

• Students identify their cards by initialling cards in the given space.

• Personalise and make unique their cards by colouring in the picture image.

• At the bottom of the card practise reading the phoneme embedded within a word. Feel free to add your own.
